My Experience

I have over eight years' experience tutoring English both in-person and online and during this time I have supported hundreds of students through their GCSE and A Level qualifications, as well as assisting with learning skills, university entry and overall academic strategy.

I have taught students of all abilities with a wide variety of requirements including long and short term tuition, remote learning, intensive holiday sessions and support for dyslexia and processing disorders.

My own educational background in English enables me to pass on expert knowledge and help my students to develop the essential writing and study skills needed to study not only English but all academic subjects. I studied Literature and Education with The Open University before going on to obtain an MSc in Psychology from University of Reading. I am passionate about keeping my knowledge and skills up to date with extensive ongoing training with major exam boards and other education providers, including gaining qualifications from TEFL.org and Cambridge International. I have also been a GCSE examiner for the last four years.

My experience as an SEN Manager in a social, emotional, mental health school has deeply shaped my approach to teaching. Supporting students with complex needs has strengthened my ability to adapt resources and teaching styles to suit individual needs so that every student can thrive. Whether a student has a diagnosed learning difficulty or simply struggles with confidence, I know how to meet them where they are and help them move forward. This background allows me to bring a calm, flexible and inclusive approach to tutoring - ensuring that learning is not only effective but also positive and empowering for every student.

In my free time I also enjoy creative writing across a range of forms, and recently had a poem shortlisted for the prestigious Bridport Prize. Successfully developing my own methods and practices as a writer helps me to teach writing skills to my students in a way that is inspiring and enjoyable.
